It's Time to Wake Up!
Awake, sleeper...
And Christ will shine on you.
(Ephesians 5:14, NASB)
A new school year has begun with parents calling out to their children that, “It's time to wake up!” These wake up calls are often repeated and gain intensity if they go unheeded. This is just one of the ways that parents care for their children.
Our Heavenly Father is telling us that its time to wake up, too. He has been awakening us through our environment, economy, elections, conflicts - both foreign and domestic - blood moons and, today, through a solar eclipse. God used solar eclipses to wake people up in the Bible as well. The greatest example of this is the one that occurred during Jesus’ crucifixion. (Matthew 27:45) Jewish rabbis have long believed a solar eclipse is a warning or wake up call from God.
It is easy to get so caught up in our everyday lives that we are distracted from God. Yet, He is always reaching out to us, desiring to awaken us to His presence. I hope and pray we will take advantage of this solar eclipse to acknowledge God for His glory! “But make sure that you don’t get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God. The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing!” (Romans 13:11-12, MSG)
