Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs
Jesus said to him, “Tend My sheep.”
John 21:17
Last weekend, I went with a group of guys to see the movie “American Sniper.” There was a scene early in the movie, during a flashback to Chris Kyle’s boyhood, which really had an impact on me. As his family is sitting around the dinner table, his father tells him and his younger brother that there are three types of people in this world: sheep, wolves and sheepdogs. He then encourages them to be sheepdogs that will protect the sheep from the wolves.
God is also calling us to be sheepdogs that care for His sheep along side the Good Shepherd. Jesus is the Good Shepard that loves His sheep; “The (wolf) comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” (John 10:10-11) Our calling is to help Jesus’ sheep keep following Him.
The world desperately needs more sheepdogs! Sheepdogs are servant leaders that humbly care for others following their Master’s example. Will you tend Jesus’ sheep? There is no greater calling and honor! “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:28)
I am praying for an awakening through Paul’s prayer that God will open the eyes of our hearts to the hope of His calling, the glory of His inheritance and greatness of His power! (Ephesians 1:18-19) If you are inspired to read more about being a sheepdog, click on this link; www.artofmanliness.com/2013/05/14/are-you-a-sheep-or-sheepdog
